The Connected Dog: Reliable Recall & Leash Manners
Location:
Dalton Municipal Building (Gym)
756 Dalton Rd.
Dalton, NH 03598
Dates: Tuesdays 6:30 pm
June 30
July 7
July 14
July 21
July 28
(Makeup date: Wednesday August 4th - if class is canceled.)
This 5-week class is designed for dogs who already have a basic foundation of training and are ready to build stronger real-world skills. The focus of this class is improving attention, responsiveness, recall, and leash manners through positive, practical training exercises that help dogs stay connected to their handlers in distracting environments.
Whether your goal is a dog who walks more politely, checks in more consistently, or comes when called with greater reliability, this class is designed to strengthen communication and build engagement between you and your dog.
Dogs entering this class should already be familiar with basic cues such as sit, down, stay, and come. These skills do not need to be perfect.
Skills covered may include:
Building attention and engagement
Recall foundations and emergency recall games
Polite leash walking
Reducing pulling and environmental fixation
Check-ins and handler focus
Passing distractions calmly
Appropriate greetings
Automatic attention around triggers and excitement
Settle exercises and impulse control
Long-line handling skills
This class uses reward-based training methods designed to help dogs feel confident, successful, and motivated to work with their handlers.
Please bring plenty of treats for your dog, a regular leash (no retractable leashes), and a current vaccination record. Flat collars, harnesses, and front-clip harnesses are welcome. A long line will be provided for class use, but owners are strongly encouraged to purchase their own long line for practice at home. A 20-foot line is a great starting point for beginners and smaller spaces, though many owners eventually prefer a longer line (30–50 feet) for practicing recall in larger areas. Prong collars and other aversive equipment are not permitted without prior permission.
Family members are invited and encouraged to attend. You will receive both a text message and a welcome email about a week before class begins containing all the information you need to be prepared.
There are no credits or refunds for missed sessions. An email summary of class skills will be provided after each session. If a class is canceled by North Star, a makeup class will be offered.
